When I walked in our house with the huge plastic bag from TJMaxx, I saw a shoe box on the stair, untouched, unopened. Inside of it is a pair of Kate Spare flats which I got at Westport side walk sale couple weeks ago. My husband Mr.Rabbit came in after me, and the unopened shoe box doesn't seems to bother him. I felt a little bit relief since I was afraid that he will say something.
I put done the huge plastic bag on the stair next to the shoe box, and changed my white high heel sandals to indoor slippers. "Oh my god, I have so many shoes." I said out loud when I saw the 7 pairs of shoes underneath Mr.Rabbit's workout bench: a pair running shoes, a pair causal sneakers, a pair fashionable platform street wears, a pair jelly bean clear shoes, a pair sandals for work, a pair black sandals with bow on top and a pair Michael Kors' gold sandals. Then, I turned around, there are at least 20 pairs of all kinds of summer shoes against the wall. I looked up at the stair, there it is, another group of 15 or more shoes stuffed in the 2 book shelves that I had since college. And, I opened the huge TJMaxx plastic bag, took out another pair of shoes.
For some reasons, I felt that I have to explain all those shoes to Mr.Rabbit. I don't know why I felt that way because he clearly knows about all those shoes. I started my explanation with some of those shoes were old and needed to be given away. Then I noticed only 1 pair out of near 60 pairs is older than 10 years, maybe 10 pairs are older than 5 years, and rest of them are all kind of new. Mr.Rabbit stood on the stair and listened to my nonsense explanation with a smile on his face. "Well, all those shoes are for different outfits. Like, this sundress I am wearing right now. When I went out this afternoon, I was running places, so I had that pair on. Easy to walk." I pointed to the gold Michael Kors flat sandals. "Then, when we went out to dinner earlier, I needed a dresser shoes, so I had that pair on." I pointed out to the white high heel sandals which I just took off.
Mr.Rabbit didn't seem to care about my explanation, but he still stood there, smiled and listened. "So, for every outfit I have, I need different shoes to match for different occasions." I put the final words down. "Yeah. Ok." Mr.Rabbit answered. That was a very reasonable respond from a man.
I put the new pair of brown platform sandals next to the other 4 pairs of platform sandals, and thought to myself that was I trying to explain to Mr.Rabbit about all my shoes, or was I trying to explain to myself. Why I am so obsessed with shoes?
Back in 2005, I only had 10 pairs of shoes in total (4 seasons). And my guy friend even told me that he never saw a girl who have this few shoes. Now, 8 years later, I might have more than 150 pairs of shoes. What changed me? Age? Fashion sense? Sex and city? Broken heart? Maybe all of those reasons or just a saying that I heard years ago:" Every woman need a pair of beautiful shoes because they can take you to your happiness." Did I need my happiness that badly? And after few years of struggle, I finally got my happiness. But I am even more crazy about shoes! Is that because I want to keep the happiness?
Just a few months ago, I read another saying about shoes:"Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life." I loved it. The little girl inside of me is finally find her voice to keep buying new shoes! Not only them will take me to my happiness, but it also will change my life! Let the shoes empower me and let's take over the world!
